Cordura launches recycled nylon 6.6 as part of new platform
Invista’s Cordura brand has unveiled a recycled nylon collection made from made from 100% pre-consumer nylon 6.6.

Invista says compared with virgin nylon, re/cor RN66 decreases greenhouse gas emissions by 83%, consumes 82% less energy and uses 57% less water.

Anthony Green, Cordura vice-president, said: “One of the main goals was to continue to deliver the performance expected of Cordura Advanced Fabrics, while expanding our portfolio of responsible products. It’s something our customers and partners have been asking for and something we’ve been working hard to deliver.”

The re/cor platform will incorporate the company’s sustainable yarns, including a new solution-dyed nylon fabric, Cordura Truelock.

Truelock fabrics are created from nylon 6.6 multi-filament fibres incorporating colour at the molten polymer extrusion level. This leads to water and energy savings, as well as reduced co2 emissions, in the manufacturing process.

Cindy McNaull, Cordura business development director, added: “Many of our customers are already familiar with our Global Recycled Standard (GRS)-certified post-consumer recycled polyester and pre-consumer RN6 fabric technologies, both of which are being folded into our Cordura re/cor line. We are also incredibly proud of Cordura Truelock.”

Cordura is partnering fabric mills, such as Dong Jin International, as well as brands to bring the new technology to the market.

We will cover this development in more depth in the next issue of WSA, published at the start of February.
