Jack Wolfskin uses ‘zero tape’ tech in hiking jacket
German outdoor brand Jack Wolfskin has released a three-layer hooded hiking jacket that is both waterproof and windproof, but at the same time tapeless.

Thanks to its Zero Tape technology, the company has found a way to seal against water penetration by welding the seams of its new Texapore fabric in a staggered fashion. This means 20 metres of seam tape is saved per jacket. What is more, the lack of double layers typically necessitated in conventional seam-sealing tape systems enhances breathability, Jack Wolfskin says. The problem of seam tapes peeling away due to age is also avoided.

Use of lightweight Texapore for the body of the Tapeless jacket means it also has stretch, thanks to the fabric's 77% polyamide and 23% polyester composition. The hem, cuffs and hood are all adjustable, while the elimination of seams at the hips and shoulders mitigate against friction potentially caused by wearing a backpack. All zips are water resistant.
