Rieter-Recover alliance will diversify recycled blends
02/03/2023
The aim is to diversify the blends available from Recover, the collaborators said, working with Rieter’s spinning technology. One expected challenge is how to recycle different fibres and fabrics mechanically, without reducing fibre quality. Another relates to post-consumer textile waste, which is often tricker to sort by composition, due to the sheer variety of blends.
In working together, Rieter and Recover hope to find ways to advance how pre- and post-consumer material is processed, to progress the scope and scalability of recycled textile fibres throughout the industry.
Both parties are also currently engaged in third party-led research alongside university teams and other experts. The hope here is to verify how much recycled fibre content remains in yarns following various processing methods, they explained, to support improvements in how "real" recycled material usage is accounted for.
