FibreTrace and SGS create fibre integrity protocol

Traceability provider FibreTrace and testing group SGS have teamed up to develop a 'fibre integrity protocol', which will combine testing, verification, chain of custody checking and product markers.

SGS will work with textile and footwear supply chain operators to verify data, conduct audits and ensure the traceability claims for materials are accurate.

SGS will support suppliers to demonstrate compliance within the FibreTrace digital platform, review the traceability of fibres and materials prior to the application of FibreTrace physical technology (for example at recycled polyester collection points), and help brands and retailers to carry out on-site scanning and verification.

FibreTrace uses a solution based on a luminescent pigment, the same found on currency and passports. The process is said to withstand all manufacturing stages.

Shannon Mercer, CEO of FibreTrace, said: “The partnership with SGS allows the accelerated and robust implementation of FibreTrace across vast supply chains, with multi-fibre applications, multiple languages and multiple countries of origin and production.”

Yvonne Tse, vice-president of global softlines at SGS, said: “By embracing new technologies, we are better placed to ease the pathway towards traceability for producers, manufacturers, brands and retailers worldwide.”
