Accelerating Circularity to fly recycled cotton’s flag in London
US non-profit Accelerating Circularity (ACP) is set to host a workshop on the theme of “what can technically be done with mechanically recycled cotton” at the upcoming Textile Exchange annual conference, due to take place in London between October 23 and 27.
ACP’s mission, it says, is to help speed up the industry's transition away from linear practices by ‘looping in’ and mainstreaming textile-to-textile recycling, to encourage wider adoption of resultant raw materials.
Last month, it went live with a dictionary of common chemical recycling terms as part of the launch programme for its Alliance of Chemical Textile Recycling working group, on top of receiving $1.2 million in fresh funding from Walmart Foundation.
The event, entitled Reality Zone, is due to take place on October 27 at 9.30 am and will be marked by involve the launch of another new database, the organisation said. Mechanically recycled cottons sourced from inside the ACP network, all already on the market, will be available for handling in either textile or apparel form on the day.
Founder and president, Karla Magruder, commented: “Our goal is to use these events to reinforce what can done here and now with mechanically recycled cotton to make an impact to reduce textile waste going to landfills.
“By adopting and incorporating higher volumes of recycled cotton into the production process, we can move toward more circular supply chains.”
