Fibre congress releases programme

13/08/2024
The 63rd Global Fibre Congress will be taking place a month from now, from September 11 to 13 in Dornbirn, Austria.

Organised by the Austrian Fibres Institute, it is an important event for textile researchers to present their latest work. The programme of the upcoming edition has been released, and four key topics will be covered.

Fibre innovation, the core focus of the congress, covers a wide array of end-uses, from apparel to automotive, and all types of fibres. New developments in PFAS alternatives, research into a multifilament yarn with thermochromic properties, and a presentation of Rheon are some of the more sports-oriented topics.

Circular solutions, recycling and sustainability have become increasingly important over the years, and make up the second key topic of the Dornbirn conference. One of the three morning sessions will be dedicated to innovation in automatic sorting technologies and several talks will present recent findings in recycling textile waste containing elastane. A number of talks will focus on solutions to optimise fibre-to-fibre recycling and one will specifically focus on the impact of European legislation on the textile industry.

Energy has been identified as an important issue in the textile industry, and is this edition’s third key topic. Emerging technologies, the fourth, will highlight new developments in digitalization, AI and traceability technologies.
