Re:Down introduces wool insulation
At Performance Days last week, recycled down specialist Re:Down presented a new reference, an insulation made from wool in two references, 60 and 100 grammes. The slim filler is very soft to the touch and can be used for mid layers and light outerwear. “We use high end waste from spinning mills. The fibres are very fine, as they were intended for tailoring yarns,” Eric Firmann, company co-founder tells Sportstextiles.

Re:Down has been working on this development since 2019, looking for a solution that was complementary to its recycled down. In addition to the very soft and smooth hand, Re:Wool insulation does not require a downproof fabric, he says, which means the garment will breathe better and “can be a good solution for active uses”. The wool fibres are combined with PLA to stabilise the filler.
