Lycra, Carvico and Arena to show sustainable apparel at MarediModa

Fibre developer the Lycra Company will continue as the official partner of the MarediModa exhibition.

The 2025 edition of the beachwear, lingerie and athleisure fabrics event takes place in Cannes from October 22-24.

At the exhibition, Lycra will showcase garments made with its EcoMade yarn, which is 70% derived from industrial corn. The company introduced EcoMade at last year’s MarediModa, describing it as a sustainable elastane. It said the yarn would deliver the same performance as the original Lycra fibre.

EcoMade garments on display at this year’s exhibition will include nine pieces from swimwear brand Arena and five athleisure garments developed by Italian fabric manufacturer Carvico.

Representatives of Carvico and Arena will join Lycra colleagues at MarediModa to take part in a live discussion, with ‘From Fiber to Sustainable Swimwear: A Blueprint for Collaboration’ as the theme.

In the build-up to the Cannes event, The Lycra Company vice-president Alistair Williamson said: “Our partnership with Arena and Carvico demonstrates how shared values and aligned goals can accelerate the adoption of responsible solutions. At MarediModa, we are proud to showcase what is possible when brands, mills, and fibre innovators come together to help advance a more sustainable future for apparel.”

Lycra said EcoMade would soon be available at commercial scale and will be a drop-in solution for its customers, meaning there will be no need for them “to re-engineer fabrics, processes or patterns” to start using the yarn.
