Ponda raises $2.4M as it readies to scale
Ponda, a British start-up initially known as Saltyco, has finalised a seed funding round bringing in $2.4 million. These funds will allow it to grow BioPuff production and expand its wetland farming network across Europe.

The investment round was co-led by Faber VC and Counteract, with support from PDS Ventures, Evenlode Impact and the Royal College of Art. The company had previously received grants and awards from Innovate UK, the H&M Foundation’s Global Change Award and the Terra Carta Design Lab, bringing total funding to $6.5 million.

Over the next 18 months, the company plans to use the funds to increase production capacity for BioPuff from pilot to commercial scale. It will also expand its second mission which is to regenerate peatlands through the culture of the grass used to make the natural insulation material. This will enable Ponda to make BioPuff commercially available for the Autumn/Winter 26/27 collections.

Its facility is located in Bristol where it has both fibre processing and prototyping capabilities. Brands that have trialled the plant-based thermal insulation include Berghaus, Stella McCartney, Parley for the Oceans and Sheep Inc.

“In what has been a challenging landscape for many climate-tech startups, I’m incredibly proud that Ponda and our amazing team have hit another huge milestone. This is a sign that the future will be regenerative, and that system’s-thinking approaches to material supply chains can unlock massive impact alongside venture-scale financial returns,” commented Ponda CEO Julian Ellis-Brown.
