PrimaLoft introduces first T2T products

Two ranges make up the new ReRun platform. ThermoPlume PrimaLoft ReRun is a loose fibre fill made from mechanically recycled fibres in a partnership with footwear manufacturers that supply PrimaLoft with manufacturing offcuts. These are shredded and “unique”, said Andrea Paulson, PrimaLoft’s head of innovation and technology, speaking at a conference at Performance days this week. “They are unique because we literally do not know what we will get, and we don’t care,” she told the audience. The filler is dotted with coloured strands, and can be bluish or rainbow coloured depending on the feedstock it is made from. A brand can decide to choose a translucent outer fabric to make the recycled content visible, or mask it with an opaque fabric. Ms Paulson sees this feature as a unique selling point, she told Sportstextiles. The ThermoPlume filler is a blend of 70% PrimaLoft fibres and 30% mechanically recycled fibres. The close-knit supply chain makes it possible to maintain chain of custody, which offers brands a guarantee of security.
Silver PrimaLoft ReRun is made from chemically recycled textile waste and these “regenerated” fibres are high performance and virgin grade, no compromise, said Ms Paulson. The new reference is made from a blend of 50% conventional Primaloft rPET and 50% textile-to-textile recycled fibres. She noted that three-way partnerships could be set up between a brand, a recycler and PrimaLoft. “We can work with a brand’s existing recycling partner to make the insulation. Or we can be a facilitator, and connect the brand with a textile recycler.”
ReRun marks the first steps PrimaLoft is taking to integrate textile waste into its ranges. Ms Paulson noted that the offering in Silver was currently limited by availability of chemically regenerated T2T fibres, as recyclers are still in the early stages of industrialisation. “We need more options to become available to grow our ranges,” she said.
