Concerted effort behind Recycling Powerhouse
A new venture to accelerate textile recycling was launched last week in Switzerland by a group of companies including machinery-maker Rieter, textile engineering company Säntis Textiles, both from Switzerland, with sorting technology specialist Valvan of Belgium. They intend to pool their expertise to build a network of textile recycling globally. Their know-how lies in mechanical recycling of post- and pre-consumer textile waste.
Recycling Powerhouse Ltd will operate as a franchisor providing recycling technologies, operating procedures, digital solutions, audit services and technical support to franchisees. The yarns produced will be marketed under a common brand while Recycling Powerhouse will guarantee quality through auditing, certification and end-to-end traceability.
The first franchisee, Qatar-based Suhail Industrial Holding Group, has been announced. The company has experience in metal, steel and plastic recycling and is adding textiles to its operations. A blueprint recycling facility is set to begin operations in early 2027 in Qatar, with additional facilities already planned.
These facilities will be equipped with Rieter tearing and spinning machinery specially developed for short-staple fibres. Valvan will provide the latest version of its automated AI-based textile sorting machine Fibersort along with Trimclean, a system designed to prepare fabric clips for tearing. Säntis has successfully developed a process to make 100% recycled cotton fabrics.
