Novozymes scoops textile innovation award

The UK-based Society of Dyers and Colourists has presented Danish biotech company Novozymes with an innovation award for its Combi process.

The solution uses neutral cellulases rather than acidic cellulases, making it possible for textile manufacturers to combine the biopolishing and bleach clean-up process in the dyeing step, saving time, energy, water consumption and costs.

“When it comes to creating a more sustainable textile industry, we believe that creating better quality and more durable textiles that last longer is key,” said Han Kuilderd, technology manager for Novozymes Textiles. “Through eliminating the formation of fuzz and pills on fabrics during the dyeing process, consumers can keep clothes looking newer for longer after repeated wash and wear.

“We’re delighted to win the SDC Innovation Award, and we’re very proud of our proprietary Combi process being recognised as state-of-the-art technology by such a competent group of textile industry experts.”
