Water challenges first on the agenda for new Novozymes initiative

09/10/2017
Danish enzyme specialist Novozymes has launched a new open research initiative that it hopes will allow innovators, start-ups and companies to work together to develop solutions for some of the world’s greatest challenges.

The initiative, which it calls Hello Science, aims to build an online network of experts who can share their expertise and technologies in order to solve global problems, such as those addressed in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

HelloScience will select different themes to focus on; the first of these will be ‘water’. Among the challenges the initiative will attempt to address is the need for an E. coli detection device to prevent deaths from this water-related disease. It will also seek to develop biological solutions to remove polluting chemicals from water and to improve the cleaning of wastewater.

Start-ups and small companies are invited to submit ideas on this topic to HelloScience.io. The process is also open to water experts, university researchers, corporates, NGOs, investors and students.

Those submitting potentially useful ideas will have access to a network of researchers and innovators who will help to develop their concept. Novozymes will also offer the use of its technology and the expertise of its staff to support the projects.
