18/12/2014

Amni Soul Echo, a yarn developed in Brazil by Rhodia and which the company claims is the world's first biodegradable yarn, has won the Kurt Politzer Technology Award, according to an announcement made during the 19th Annual Meeting of the Chemical Industry (ENAIQ), held in São Paulo.

The innovation was also recognised with the ECO Award from the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham), in the Products and Services category for Sustainability Practices.

Amni Soul Eco is a polyamide 6.6, whose formulation has been enhanced to allow clothing made from it to decompose in fewer than three years.

"It is a huge development for the industry and, thus, fulfils our commitment to nature and future generations. The development of this product is a commitment by Rhodia to sustainability," said Francisco Ferraroli, CEO of the Fibras global business unit at the Solvay Group.
