Students lend a hand to Brazilian brands

Set up by the University of Sao Paulo, the Brazilian textile association (Abit) and the Fashion Industry Export Programme, local brands presented their problems to the students, who were encouraged to give feedback.
Rafael Cervone, CEO of Abit, said: “We are building a new platform for the textile and apparel industry in Brazil. We need, more than ever, to train more skilled professionals who bring innovative proposals backed by real knowledge of the market, creating an environment more open to innovation, design and cutting edge technology within companies.
Professor Francisca Dantas Mendes, deputy coordinator of the course, said the collaboration helped students prepare for the job market. “Our students will be able to develop solutions in fashion, design, management and technology,” he said.
The scheme will be widened to other universities and technology centres in Brazil. “Apex-Brasil has constantly encouraged us to innovate, and this is a project that will bring differentiation and add value to Brazilian products in the global market,” added Mr Cervone.
