Rhodia: 'Great opportunity' for polyurethane in footwear market
26/07/2017
Rhodia produced adipic acid, the raw material for the manufacture of polyurethane. BASF has developed new polyurethane systems for soles and midsole, Elastopan S 81030 and SP 8060.
The pair are beginning tests with sneakers that incorporate new material into their soles and midsole to evaluate their performance compared with other materials. The results have so far been positive, say the companies.
"We see a great market opportunity for the shoe industry with polyurethane, which offers excellent performance. We are very pleased with the test results, which show that this reality is approaching our market,” said Rudnei Roberto de Assis, market specialist for BASF's Performance Materials Footwear for South America.
