D3O’s shock-absorbing technology ‘will be game changer’ for snow sports

D3O, a UK-based supplier of shock-absorbing material know-how, has introduced an anti-vibration material in ski hardware through brands Renoun and Rome Snowboards.

In standard conditions, the raw material’s molecules flow freely allowing the material to remain soft and flexible, but on impact, they lock together to absorb impact energy and reduce the force transmitted. The molecules instantly return to their flexible state.

US ski brand Reoun has used D3O’s hyper-damping technology in its Endurance ski, which it claims is the only ski on the market to adapt as conditions change and for which it won an Ispo Gold Award.
Rome Snowboards has used the technology in bindings and a snow boot liner to boost cushioning and shock absorption underfoot.

Marcus Hoenig, D3O’s development officer for advanced concepts, said the materials, honed in sectors such as defence, industrial workwear, motorcycle and consumer electronics, will now be “game changers” for the snow sports sector.
