While Crailar flax offers benefits such as using less water in production than cotton, it has suffered production issues including plant stability and its CEO departed last November.
In an interview with WSA, its marketing manager Jay Nalbach said he was confident of a growth trajectory similar to man-made cellulosic fibres.
During the quarter, fibre output volume increased by 43% over Q3 2014. Drying capacity was doubled with installation and programming of a second dryer and a kier overhaul which increases loads per cycle.
Crailar said forecasted demand now exceeds plant capacity, with two customers scheduled for trials for the second quarter 2015. Adidas is among customers that showed support; its chief financial officer, Klaus Flock, joined Crailar’s board last June.
