TTF says South China remains a priority

The Taiwan Textile Federation has explained that Southern China is an area it will continue to have strong ties to, despite rising wages there, because of the increase of disposable income which is driving the fashion market.

TTF’s market development head, Ruby Feng, said: “With the steady rise of salaries and the gradual disappearance of the labour cost advantage, the region is no longer the main focus for firms with labour intensive activities. On the other hand, as people’s living standards increase, Southern China is now regarded as one of the regions having the highest development potential. What’s more, China’s current 13th Five-Year Plan singles out four free economic trade zones, including Guangdong, so the region is a main priority for the government at present.

The Federation is organising a Taiwan Pavilion at the Intertextile Pavilion at the Shenzhen International Trade Fair for Apparel Fabrics and Accessories, July 9 to 11. A number of exhibitors will showcase functional textiles, an area which the Taiwan textile industry prides itself on.

Ms Feng told fair organiser Messe Frrankfurt: “With Hong Kong adjacent to Shenzhen, international brands which have buying offices there will attend the fair to find the latest fashion trends and novel fabrics.”
