Xeros expands near-waterless cleaning internationally

27/08/2015

Xeros Technology, a spin-off from Leeds University that developed a polymer-bead cleaning system using little water, has signed agreements to expand its footprint in Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America in the commercial laundry market.

The process combines mechanical action and absorption, and reduces the consumption of water by 70%, says the company. It needs less energy and fewer chemicals.

The Caribbean islands are some of the most vulnerable countries in the world to water shortages. The impact of climate change is expected to raise the sea level significantly, increase salt-water intrusion, flooding and hurricanes, and decrease rainfall.  The islands are also experiencing the worst drought conditions in five years.

Xeros CEO Bill Westwater said: “We are hugely encouraged by Xeros’ expansion evidencing the relevance and increasing acceptance of Xeros’ near-waterless and energy-saving cleaning solution in markets that can no longer ignore issues around water scarcity and need for energy conservation.”
