Xeros domestic washing machine tackles microfibre migration
UK-based Xeros Technology Group, a developer of polymer-bead based washing techniques, has unveiled a domestic washing machine that uses 50% less water, detergent and energy than standard machines, it claims.

XOrb technology enables the cleaning of clothes through absorption, adsorption and mechanical action, resulting in a “significant reduction” in water, power and chemical use.

It also features a filter system that reduces the amount of synthetic microfibres entering rivers and oceans - a criticism levelled at the sportswear industry which is one of the major users of synthetic textiles.

XFiltra includes an integrated pump, filter and dewatering device that cleans wash water before its release to sewage systems.

By adding the filter, Xeros says it has honoured the commitments it made to the United Nations Ocean Conference in June 2017.

Xeros CEO Mark Nichols said: “This is a key development for us. Our technologies provide a sizeable and growing group of consumers with home washing machines that are environmentally friendly, using considerably less water, detergent and power as well as providing better cleaning and fabric care.”
