Patagonia moves further into campaigning with documentary

Outdoor brand Patagonia is increasing its campaigning efforts with the release of Jumbo Wild, a documentary telling story the decades-long battle over British Columbia’s Jumbo Valley.

It documents the tug of war between community members, First Nations and conservationists, resort developers and politicians.

Patagonia said: “A proposed ski resort threatens the rich wilderness of British Columbia’s Purcell Range – a revered backcountry ski and snowboarding destination with world-class terrain, sacred ground for local First Nations people, and part of one of North America’s most important grizzly bear corridors.”

Patagonia uses its voice to back conservation efforts, last December releasing DamNation, a documentary showing the damage some dam-building does to the environment, and donating $6.6 million to environmental groups during fiscal 2014.

An eight-minute Jumbo Wild short can be viewed for free on Patagonia.com. The full documentary will be on tour throughout North America until November 2, 2015.
