Aquafil powers local business with leftover energy
Aquafil’s Slovenian facility will donate excess thermal energy from the ECONYL Regeneration System to a waterpark in Ljubljana, providing 100% of its needs.
The proximity allows the businesses to significantly reduce environmental impacts on the city.
The Italian group converts nylon 6 from fishing nets and carpets into reusable thread at the facility. They are then used in the sportswear industry, by brands including Adidas and Speedo.
In the November/December 2015 issue of WSA, Aquafil’s chief executive Giulio Bonazzi told us the group is always looking to reuse waste products. It is continuing to look into using waste to generate energy, and is working on separating dyes and possibly regenerating them for future use.
