China to extend list of duty-free products from Bangladesh

China will add 17 products from Bangladesh to the list of 4,700 products that benefit from duty-free access to the country. Among the items to be added will be synthetic fabrics, silk waste, short boots and some leather products. 

The additions were in agreed in principle at the 14th session of the biannual Bangladesh-China Joint Economic Commission (August 22), which was held at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in Dhaka. It comes at a time when efforts are being made to deepen trade relations between the countries.

The Chinese delegation to the session was led by Gao Yan, vice minister for commerce. He urged the duty-free access to begin as soon as possible, according to ERD senior secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin.

Mr Mejbahuddin added that the delegation expressed an interest in investing the apparel zone that is being established in Munshigani by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
