Bangladesh seeks to increase productivity in ready-made garment industry

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has partnered with fashion and textile industry associations from Denmark to boost productivity and increase corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the ready-made garment industry.

Together they will run the ‘Step Up Project In Bangladesh’, funded by the Danish government’s development cooperation (DANIDA), which aims to build on existing initiatives and improve CSR and productivity in small and medium-sized factories that manufacture apparel for buyers in Denmark.

The project will initially focus on 10 factories, which will undergo a study of their CSR and productivity performance. They will then receive support to develop individual action plans for improvement. The BGMEA and its Danish partners will share the results of the project with the wider industry once it is completed.
