New tradeshow calendar a worry for SIA
The president of industry association, SnowSports Industries Americas (SIA), Nick Sargent, has expressed concerns of a new tradeshow calendar released by Outdoor Retailer.

“As the official trade association for the winter industry, it’s SIA’s job to look out for our membership’s best interest and the industry as a whole, including the support of any actions taken to reduce stress on the industry,” he wrote in a letter to the industry.

After consultation with industry figures, Outdoor Retailer unveiled plans to move its Winter Market trade show to mid-November in 2018, directly after Grassroots Outdoor Alliance’s Connect Show. It also a proposed a new Winter Expo in January 2019 for companies who are not ready to exhibit in November.

He said the SIA was worried that the new schedule, which he says will see four winter-specific US trade show take place within a year from November 2018, will cause “unnecessary stress and economic duress on suppliers and retailers”.

“We are all part of one large industry eco-system and the lines are increasingly blurring between winter snow sports and the general outdoor market,” he added. “Therefore, it’s crucial that we work together to find a way to minimize the number of national shows, while better supporting the regional shows.”
