Lululemon turns to Brazilian textile artist
28/11/2016
Ms Milheiro has garnered popularity due to her work weaving feathers and silks to create textiles with detailed patterns and textures. She has worked with fashion houses like Chanel and Valentino.
Lululemon turned to her to help design its new Featherlight collection, which launched in stores and online on November 25.
The three prints in the collection are based on hand-cut patterns arranged by the artist and then digitally printed on Lululemon’s lightweight Nulux fabric. They include one based on feathers hand-cut by the designer and arranged so they move progressively from white to black.
Lululemon creative director Lee Holman first met Ms Milheiro at a couture fair and approached her to discuss a collaboration. He said the artistry and craftsmanship that went into the final prints has encouraged the brand to explore other artistic partnerships in the future.
