Timberland employees continue to give back
Outdoor brand Timberland has detailed the progress made on its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives during the third quarter on 2016.

It separates these efforts into three areas: product, outdoors and community.

Timberland revealed that 69% of the cotton it used during the quarter was either organic, of US origin, or certified by the Better Cotton Initiative. 91.6% of the leather used came from tanneries with a silver or gold rating. It sourced from 349 factories in the third quarter. Of these, 99.5% met or exceed the company’s expectations after being audited for social and labour compliance.

The brand announced earlier this year that it would align its goals for energy reduction and renewable energy with parent company VF corporation. By 2020, it is targeting a 10% reduction in energy use and having 50% of its energy “procured or offset by renewable sources”.

Timberland’s community initiatives, of which it is very proud, saw employees dedicate more than 13,000 hours to local and overseas projects. Its pillar event, Serv-a-palooza, took place during the quarter. It included donating Timberland boots to over 700 underprivileged children, helping to renovate a centre for war veterans, and cooking meals at a homeless shelter.
