Timberland gives update on CSR initiatives
Outdoor brand Timberland has released details of the progress it made in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives during the first quarter of 2016. Timberland splits its CSR into three categories: product, outdoor and communities.

Timberland said in its report that 99% of its leather used in footwear is produced in tanneries that have a silver or gold rating. 44% of the cotton used in its apparel is either organic, of US origin or sourced from the Better Cotton Initiative. Of the 330 factories working with Timberland, 99% had “acceptable” social and labour compliance. Those that did not meet this standard had their orders withheld until corrective action was taken or an alternative production location could be found.

With regards to community initiatives, Timberland said its employees carried out 7,069 hours of work on over 80 community service projects. These included tree planting, volunteering at animal sanctuaries and building homes, a programme alongside Habitat for Humanity.

The report didn’t contain details of Timberland’s emissions or use of renewable energy to the how parent company VF reports its energy results. This data will be included in Timberland’s Q2 CSR report.
