18/07/2017
The Cambodia Garment Training Institute is located within the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (SEZ). It has been set up by the country’s Garment Manufacturers Association.
The primary aim of the institute is to fill the skills gap in the Cambodian garment industry. The first intake of more than 160 workers from 14 factories across the country have already started their training.
“These courses are based on the jobs that are lacking the most in the industry,” explained Andrew Tey, director of the institute.
It will offer three different diploma programmes, each lasting three months. They will be made up of a selection of short courses lasting three to five days.
As well as these courses focusing on manufacturing skills, the institute will also offer a programme for high school and university students that includes a placement at a factory as a management trainee.
