REI explores online resale of used products

12/10/2017
Outdoor clothing and equipment co-operative REI has launched a pilot online platform, Used Gear, where customers can purchase returned or used products at a discount price.

“We’re trying this out as a way to help more people get outdoors while keeping useful stuff out of the landfills,” REI has explained.

The site sells men’s and women’s apparel and footwear, as well as camping equipment. Current items available include coats, shirts, shoes, boots, camping stoves and tents.

Customers are able to return products they now longer need or want to REI. This could be for a range of reasons, including fit, wear or loss of function. REI then evaluates the product’s and chooses which are suitable for resale on the Used Gear site.

The platform has only just launched and is in the “beta” testing phase. REI is asking any customers that use the site to give their feedback so that it can make improvements before a full roll-out takes place.
