The UK-based brand, which was founded in 2003, has a history of developing shoes for participants in this sport, which involves tackling a pre-defined range of obstacles on uneven and often treacherous surfaces.
This year will be the first time the OCR World Championships have taken place in the UK. They will be held in London in October.
“The athletes who tackle our rigorous and unpredictable course at the 2018 Obstacle Course Racing World Championships in London this October must be fast, agile and adaptable, so having the right footwear is going to be critical,” explained, Sandra Sawyer, sponsorship director for the event. “Inov-8’s lightweight, flexible running shoes with revolutionary grip will give athletes the ultimate advantage on all surfaces and in all racing conditions. Our wet, slippery, muddy terrain may have finally met its match!”
In December 2017, inov-8 announced it had teamed up with experts at the University of Manchester in the UK to launch the first running and fitness shoes that incorporate graphene. The brand has used this revolutionary material in the outsole of its new G-Series shoes in order to enhance the grip they offer. They have also been shown to wear down less quickly.
Michael Price, product and marketing director for inov-8, said the brand’s partnership with the OCR World Championships is an excellent way to celebrate the launch of G-series, especially given that the 2018 edition will take place in its home country.
He added that inov-8’s X-Talon range of shoes, which feature a claw-inspired outsole, have been worn by a number of previous winners of the OCR World Championships.
