EOG names new secretary general

20/12/2018
The European Outdoor Group (EOG) has announced the appointment of Arne Strate as its new general secretary. He is currently the organisation’s head of marketing and business development, but will assume his new role on January 1.

His appointment brings to a close a rigorous 12-month recruitment process that was initiated after current secretary general Mark Held announced his intention to step down. Mr Held had initially indicated he would stay until summer 2019.

The EOG has said it considered applications from within and outside the outdoor industry. The recruitment panel consisted of Mr Held, EOG president John Jansen and Antje von Dewitz, EOG board member and chief executive of outdoor brand Vaude.

Mr Strate joined the EOG in January 2016 and played a leading roll in the creation of the It’s Great Out There Coalition, a non-profit association set up by the EOG to inspire more people to get active in the outdoors.
