Stratasys providing PolyJet Technology to EU Re-FREAM program

After debuting its J750 PolyJet 3D printer at New York Fashion Week, 3D printing company Stratasys is providing the technology to the European Union Re-FREAM programme.

The programme is part of the broader Science, Technology & the Arts (STARTS) initiative, to encourage artists, designers, engineers and scientists to co-explore the use of technology and 3D printing for the future of fashion.

The J750 PolyJet printer can produce more than 500,000 combinations of colours, textures, gradients and transparencies, and was recently used by designers to add polymers to the innovative Chro-Morph collection.

There are also potential business benefits, such as simplifying the supply chain and reducing costs for apparel and textile manufacturers, according to the company, as a 3D printer could replace a variety of other machines - from 2D-printing to embroidery, thermoforming, foiling and ultrasound.

Stratasys fashion director Naiomi Kaempfer said: “We are always looking to revolutionise manufacturing methods, pioneer new design options, and inspire designers and students to create without boundaries.

“Our mission is to change the way people think about design and to redefine what is possible.”
