Covestro looks to ‘push boundaries’ with Carbon partnership

Carbon refers to the technology that employs this programmable resin as ‘Digital Light Synthesis’. It allows for the easy creation of high-performance, durable polymeric products. Adidas has used the technology to create midsoles for shoes as part of its Futurecraft design project.
Covestro has said it has invested “a significant sum” to enable the production of the resin in commercial quantities. It explained that the partnership has already proved the mass production viability of the 3D-printing process and of the material.
"Our biggest challenge in the upscaling of additive manufacturing until series production lies in the supply of suitable materials in the required quality and quantity," said Patrick Rosso, global head of additive manufacturing at Covestro.
"By partnering with companies like Carbon, we are pushing existing scale boundaries and supporting various industries along the value chain on their way to digital mass production.”
