Kangol readies for China launch
Seoul-headquartered SJ Group is preparing for Kangol’s entry into the Chinese market during the first half of this year, South Korean media have reported.
SJ Group recently acquired the additional rights needed to distribute Kangol products among Asian countries, such as China and India, as well as across the United States, Canada and Italy.
The first part of the launch will see Kangol join online shopping malls (Alibaba’s Tmall is reportedly being considered) and duty-free locations in the country, including on Hainan island.
An SJ Group spokesperson commented: “The brand value of Kangol and the strength of Kangol’s clothing and accessories, designed and produced in Korea, will be recognised by the Chinese market. With this entry and expansion, the export value of Kangol branded products is expected to more than double each year.”
SJ Group reportedly aims to grow Kangol into a fashion brand with sales of 300 billion KRW (approximately $273 million USD) and an operating profit of 50 billion KRW (roughly $46 million USD) by 2025.
