Between London and Tokyo: Raeburn x Onward Advanced System
Global creative director of Timberland, Christopher Raeburn’s eponymous London-based brand, Raeburn, recently released a “highly limited” collection of men’s outerwear garments as part of its latest partnership with Tokyo-based “techwear” maker Onward Advanced System.
The multi-category Raeburn brand is described as “changing the world through responsible design” on its website, with “intelligent” fashion design - such as the reworking of surplus fabrics and garments to create “distinctive and functional” pieces - at its core.
Onward Advanced System, on the other hand, presents itself as providing “hi-tech, creative fashion products” for the down and raingear categories, based on its patented techniques: Advanced Down System (ADS) and Advanced Raingear System (ARS).
The two brands’ latest collaboration features parka coats and anoraks, plus duffle, bomber and field jackets, as well as gilets. Apart from the field jackets (available in both “flame” red and black), which utilise Onward’s ARS technology, all products have been made by incorporating ADS technology.
“Combining meticulous Japanese material innovation, patented technology and the creativity of London, the partnership has resulted in our most forward-thinking range of performance outerwear to date,” Raeburn said.
Recycled nylon, Japanese nylon and post-consumer recycled down all feature prominently across the collection. Cargo style snap pockets and water repellent, reversible zippers are some further elements of the items’ “high-concept”, function-first design.
