Schoeller’s solar energy project exceeds expectations
The solar panels installed by Swiss performance textiles specialist Schoeller Textil have generated 10% more energy than predicted in the first year of operation.

More than 2,838 solar modules at its production facility in Sevelen produced 950,000 kWh of energy.

The Swiss group used 85% of this to power its plant and fed the remainder back into the grid.

Schoeller CEO Siegfried Winkelbeiner said: “The intention behind the rather substantial investment of approximately 700,000 Swiss francs was to reduce the high electricity costs with the aid of a sustainable energy source.

“The decision to invest in a more ecological future was taken as far back as November 2018, but a partial refurbishment of the roof was brought forward before the solar panels were installed.”

Schoeller also announced 65 athletes at the recent At FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Cortina d’Ampezza (Italy) and the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf (Germany) were wearing its materials.
