Fair Wear collaboration could provide extra help for garment workers

Netherlands-based Fair Wear Foundation has made its systems available to members of the German Partnership for Sustainable Textiles (PST) and the Dutch Agreement on Sustainable Garments and Textile (AGT), which they say could help more workers in garment factories.

Clothing brands Seidensticker, Esprit, s.Oliver Group, G-Star and HEMA will use Fair Wear’s complaints mechanism in factories in Vietnam and India.

Workers in the supply chain of these brands will now have access to Fair Wear helplines to address labour rights violations.

Fair Wear’s associate director Margreet Vrieling said: “Joining forces is an important step towards providing more workers with better access to remedy and facilitate cooperation among brands.”

Fair Wear reports complaints on its website. Ms Vrieling said this is especially relevant now that covid-19 has made it difficult for brands to visit factories. "Complaints can now serve as an even more important source of information about what’s happening at the workplace," she added.
