Snow Peak extends cotton recycling with Takihyo
Japanese outdoor brand Snow Peak’s latest collection has again incorporated apparel created as part of its Up Cycle Cotton Project, a partnership with Nagoya-based textile business Takihyo.

The latter’s circularity-minded “no waste” technology is central to the initiative, previous iterations of which resulted in Snow Peak-branded denim late last year. Waste cotton cloth and discarded cotton clothing is crushed, made into recycled fibres, then spun into yarn, turned into fabric and, later, new recycled cotton products.

Alongside Takihyo, Snow Peak now collects all scrap cotton (plus cotton garments at end of life) from drop-off points within its directly managed Japanese stores to manufacturer and ultimately sell fresh apparel, all of which takes place in-house.

The brand stated that it also accepts other cotton articles produced by competing companies from its customers to expand its raw material base and, by extension, extend the lifecycle of the cotton fibres. Snow Peak is already engaged in a similar project concerning polyester fibres, it said.

Joggers, sweaters and hoodies (pictured) in several colourways are all included in the latest Up Cycle Cotton Project collection.
