Renewcell sets sights on Japan and Asia
Swedish start-up Renewcell, which specialises in producing recycled dissolving pulp for fibre from waste textiles, has joined hands with Osaka, Japan-based cellulosic fibre producer Daiwabo Rayon in the form of a long-term commercial collaboration.

Renewcell’s exclusive global trading partner, Ekman Group, helped facilitate the agreement, it said, which will see textile fibres made using the Stockholm-headquartered enterprise’s proprietary Circulose product (manufactured by upcycling cellulosic textile waste such as cotton and viscose via a patented process) increasingly offered to global fashion brands over the next few years. Explicitly, Daiwabo plans to take Circulose as its feedstock for producing manmade cellulosic fibres, which it will then sell worldwide.

Chief executive of Renewcell, Patrik Lundström, commented on the news: “Daiwabo is a true leader in viscose fibre production that has excellent longstanding relations with the biggest brands in Asia and the world. It reflects very well on the work done by our team to ensure the quality and maximise the potential of Circulose as a feedstock for circular textile fibres.”

The Japanese firm’s president, Kazunari Fukushima, in turn described his company’s new partner as “the most advanced textile recycling innovator in the world”.
