TNF enables on-site customisation in Harajuku

The North Face (TNF) Sphere, a new six-story flagship located in Tokyo’s Harajuku district, has opened its doors, notable for its permanent offer of TNF Japan’s 141 Custom programme on the fourth floor.

Produced by local fashion group Goldwin, the eponymous parent behind sportswear brand Goldwin, TNF Japan first launched its 141 Custom personalisation service in 2020.

Only available in a limited number of stores, the process involves fabric selection, digital rendering and three-dimensional body scanning to ensure a bespoke fit.

TNF Sphere, which is mainly geared towards runners and hikers, also marks the first time 141 Custom has been rolled out across the brand's athletic category. It brings the total number of TNF stores in Harajuku alone to six.

Particular attention has been paid to recruiting staff with first-hand experience of different styles of running and various other athletic activities, local media said, which will allow in-store team members to advise on training and competition entry, as well as demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of relevant events.

Goldwin president, Takao Watanabe, told reporters that the location was named Sphere in a nod to the concept of post-pandemic “regeneration”, specifically when it comes to the physical body and Tokyo's wider ecosystem.
