Goldwin strides into ever-greener territory
Tokyo-based fashion group Goldwin, the operator of activewear brands including The North Face (TNF) and Helly Hansen in Japan, as well as the parent company behind flagship brand Goldwin, has launched several eco-minded initiatives in its home market.

Involving both TNF and Helly Hansen, the group has revealed limited-edition, branded t-shirts, caps and tote bags in support of National Parks Japan. Crucially, more environmentally friendly fibres such as organic cotton were used in the manufacturing of each article.

Goldwin entered into an official agreement with the country’s environment ministry to become an official National Parks Japan partner back in October 2020. Alongside making awareness-raising products, it committed to promoting the use, enjoyment and protection of 34 national parks by way of branded communication strategies and a website.

The group has also announced the debut of Green Baton, a multi-brand resale label which will tap used items previously purchased from either TNF or Helly Hansen. This initiative will begin with outgrown childrenswear dropped off in-store in exchange for coupons, with collection directly managed by the brands.

Each article will subsequently be repaired and refurbished, before being resold via official channels. Where items are found to be in irreparably poor condition, fabrics from various garments will be upcycled into a single “new” product. All recreated products will bear the Green Baton logo for differentiation.
