Toray mimics hair and wool with new fabric
Japanese chemicals and polymers group Toray has developed a polyester filament fabric that mimics the structure of hair and wool, whose protein layers and structure deliver elasticity and lustre.

Qticle is a biomimetic fabric created with Toray's Nanodesign composite spinning technology.

It results in a yarn with an ultrathin shell layer, a crimped structure and fine surface irregularities. The yarn has a cross-section with two polymers.

The fabric supports lustrous and deep colours, has a smooth and supple feel, and functional stretch for comfort. Qticle is suitable for casual medium-weight fabrics for men’s and ladies’ outerwear.

Toray aims to commercialise this fabric for spring/summer 2023 collections. It targets annual sales of 200,000 metres in fiscal 2022 (through end-March 2023), and 500,000 metres by 2025.
