Goldwin opens first Chinese flagship

Japanese technical apparel brand Goldwin, particularly known for its skiwear, recently opened its first flagship store in China inside Beijing’s Taikoo Li Sanlitun shopping complex.

Working hand in hand with fellow Japanese architecture firm New Material Research Laboratory (Shinsoken), the brand explained how the concept behind the store’s design was rooted in the “accumulation of knowledge and nature”.

To achieve a sense of harmoniousness within the store, as Goldwin described it, three kinds of materials have taken precedence throughout the space: Oya stone, Nikko and Jindai cedar wood, plus blackened steel.

In-store elements such as temperature, acoustics and air quality have all been intentionally designed to foster an environment that is “different from anything found in a modern city”, the clothing company added.

China’s demand for winter sports gear such as that offered by Goldwin is currently high.

As Beijing gears up to host the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in February and March, respectively, China’s National Bureau of Statistics has revealed that more than 346 million Chinese people have now engaged in winter sporting activities since 2015, well surpassing the government’s target of 300 million people.
