Down jackets made a splash at Beijing 2022
Down jackets worn by international athletes during the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games at China’s national stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, have caused quite a stir on Chinese social media, local media have reported.

Netizens singled out the Anta-designed down parkas worn by the Chinese delegation, as well as those worn by teams USA (designed by Ralph Lauren using "intelligent insulation"), Canada (Lululemon), Japan (Descente), South Korea (The North Face), Switzerland (Ochsner), Sweden (Uniqlo) and Finland (Icepeak, with some help from Spinnova), among others.

Great Britain’s wool and cashmere coats by Ben Sherman also received a mention, as did the fitted long cashmere coats (red for female athletes and beige for men) and matching woollen hats (or red caps) also worn by some members of Team China.

Several opening ceremony costumes were designed by last year’s Yu prize winner, Chen Peng, while Feng Chen Wang created the Chinese flag bearers’ outfits.

Ding Jie was responsible for the various costumes worn by child performers throughout the event, whereas uniforms to be worn by local staff, volunteers and technical officials throughout the event were designed by He Yang, as sportstextiles reported back in November.

After Chinese president Xi Jinping appeared to again wear a Thorsen parka by Canadian brand Arc’teryx (owned by Anta) to the event, which took place on February 4, the style reportedly sold out on Alibaba-owned e-commerce platform Taobao and elsewhere on the Chinese internet, according to reports by the South China Morning Post (also owned by Alibaba) and WWD
