Hemp a hot topic for Chinese natural fibre industry

The city of Zhengzhou in China’s Henan province has hosted a meeting between local natural fibre industry players including the National Hemp Industry Technology System, China Textile Engineering Society and the Crop Science Society of China, local media have reported. 

Raw material supply challenges, fibre processing technologies and the cultivation of new products were all considered in-depth, including “green” fibre extraction techniques, use of non-woven technologies and more sustainable dyeing and finishing methods. 

During the session, president of the China Linen Textile Association, Dong Chunxing, delivered a speech on hemp textiles in which he called for further scientific and technological innovation to help navigate challenges around industry development and fibre supply.
