First AeoniQ garment launched by Hugo Boss
Hugo Boss has launched a first product made from with HeiQ’s AeoniQ fibre, a polo shirt in its Boss Green range. The garment is made from 87% AeoniQ and 13% polyamide.
The brand is presenting AeoniQ to consumers as “a revolutionary cellulosic yarn made from certified wood pulp, featuring the same performance attributes as polyester”. It said it had used the fibre in the new garment because it wants to replace synthetic fibres to reduce its impact on the planet.
Swiss textile innovator HeiQ launched AeoniQ in 2021. It said its aim was to make 100 tonnes of the yarn in 2022 and to expand from there, making 30,000 tonnes per year at a first mass-manufacturing plant, “gigafactory one”, that it is building in Austria.
It quickly presented The Lycra Company as a strategic partner in the development of AeoniQ. In February 2022, it announced that Hugo Boss would be its second strategic partner. HeiQ said it wanted to build “very deep innovation partnerships and go-to-market strategies” with the two companies.
