Terrex hiking boot built for the female foot
Adidas outdoor brand Terrex has launched a new hiking shoe “developed specifically for female anatomy”, alongside a new womenswear range made partly with recycled materials, in line with the wider group’s Three Loop strategy.

The boot, named the adidas Terrex Wmn Hiker Mid Rain.Rdy, is the result of the brand’s own insights, plus tests of several “female-specific” shoe lasts conducted in partnership with members of the 24,000-strong Munich Mountain Girls hiking club.

Terrex’s design team was particularly focused on hiking’s impact on the Achilles tendon during development, adidas said, due to the different ways in which the female foot can hit the ground on more mountainous terrain.

Feedback from Munich Mountain Girls and “thousands of foot scans” helped ascertain optimal cushioning placement, for example, in a bid to “help women all over the world experience the transformative power of the outdoors”, as product manager Rebecca MacKay described.

Constructed from the company's Rain.Rdy waterproof materials and at least 50% recycled content, the footwear features a stretchy collar and padding at the ankle, with traction provided by a Continental rubber outsole. The apparel line-up, meanwhile, includes a pair of reflective athletic leggings and a waterproof Xploric Rain.Rdy jacket, complete with a discreet security pocket and two-way zipper functionality at the front.
