New adidas Light Boost foam is 30% lighter
Sports brand adidas has unveiled Ultraboost Light, a running shoe which boasts a 30% lighter silhouette thanks to Light Boost, a new performance foam material engineered for improved comfort, cushioning and responsiveness underfoot.
This latest addition to the company’s Boost midsole technologies marks a decade since it first launched the original foam in stores at the start of March 2013.
Light Boost’s release follows in response to consumer feedback, adidas said, and offers runners the “existing benefits” of previous Ultraboost models, just with lighter material, as described by the brand’s footwear product marketing category director, Simon Lockett.
The shoe’s sole is built on Continental-supplied natural rubber and an adidas Linear Energy Push (LEP) system, redesigned to mesh with Light Boost, yet still capable of delivering “a high level of responsiveness” through the gait cycle. Its lightweight uppers are made from yarns containing at least 50% recycled ocean waste sourced via long-time brand partner Parley for the Oceans.
Adidas added that the Ultraboost Light has a 10% lower carbon footprint over its entire lifecycle compared to earlier versions, measured in line with the ISO 14067 standard.
